A dated 1970s kitchen reworked into a brighter, better-connected space that suits how the young couple cook and gather.
The kitchen was tired, but it held decades of memory - this was the apartment the owner grew up in, and coming back to renovate it as an adult meant deciding what to keep and what to let go. Rather than smooth over the original 1970s character, the brief leaned into it, bringing colour back in a way that felt playful rather than heavy, a departure from spaces that so often skew serious or old before their time. A blue tiled splashback was chosen to cool the strong western light that floods the room most afternoons, and the old balcony was reworked into a spot for the round table, exactly where a book and a coffee belong
